A teenage girl believes Janis Joplin was her mother and her “brother” suffering from PTSD is her father, which makes her adoptive mom (or grandma) act out.

14 year old Andrew is failing algebra; a washed up movie star starts calling him his little guru and Andrew’s dad, a recently widowed, math professor, can’t understand how social media made this happen.

At age 7 I followed my mother to her classes at The University of Houston and studied creative writing alongside her because she couldn’t afford a babysitter. A poem I wrote was soon published in a magazine for children and I thought getting published would always be as simple as that. Live and learn.
